Office to student accommodation trend continues in Glasgow

A disused Glasgow office block in Glasgow is to be put to new use as student housing, extending a trend seen across the city centre.

McLaren Property plans to convert the existing 1970s building at 285 Bath Street, introducing a ground-floor commercial unit in the process.

Incorporating a range of standard amenities such as a gym, roof garden and bike store the property will be revamped at the hands of Manson Architects.

McLaren Property's divisional managing director, David Atherton, said: "We want to deliver best-in-class student homes to the city, which will help address the widely reported shortage of student accommodation and support both the universities and Glasgow to retain and develop young talent."

A public consultation outlining the plans in more detail will be held on 18 June.

Whilst the existing building is an ugly beast it is better to reuse it rather than demolish it.
